Revit Family Creation

Content Creation Strategy

Project details

At SSG I was tasked with leading the transition to BIM. I developed a robust content strategy to improve efficiency and standards.

Fetch had over 1.2 million downloads in 2023

As a design professional, I understand the importance of accurate and usable content. That's why our Revit families are based on real-world products, complete with built-in constraints, list prices, and actual product codes for easy specification.

My strategy for Fetch centers around providing a single source of truth for all Revit and adjacent content. We adhere to a 5D BIM baseline, making data transparent and easily accessible. Our families are highly configurable and easy to use, with data reflecting each configuration. By following a component-based strategy, I ensure that maintenance is efficient and content remains consistent.

I’ve focused on usability with intuitive naming conventions, standardized parameters with helpful prefixes and tooltips, and a clear hierarchy of reference planes. Our graphics are simplified for ease of placement, including PBR materials for compatibility and realism. Performance is optimized with built-in levels of detail, minimal use of arrays and voids, and constrained geometry. I also ensure file sizes are manageable, with optimal families under 1MB and more complex ones up to 1.5MB.

Beyond families, Fetch provides a holistic approach with multiple content types, including model groups, tags, schedules, templates, and material libraries. My rigorous QA/QC processes guarantee that all families are thoroughly tested and any issues are quickly resolved. With Fetch, I aim to provide AEC professionals with a versatile, reliable, and efficient resource for all their Revit content needs.
